Background

Authentica, an academic and experiential provider of expertly curated global programs, is committed to environmentally responsible education. It set out to achieve carbon neutrality across its study-abroad programs and office operations for the period 1 January 2025 to 31 January 2026, covering 47 global academic programs.

Challanges

Neutralising the footprint of a worldwide study-abroad operation is complex. Authentica needed to move from intent to a measured, standards-aligned, and independently traceable result, and faced several hurdles:

  • Capturing emissions across 47 programs in dozens of countries plus office operations, at real scale.
  • Aligning the claim with ISO 14068-1, ISO 14064-1, and the GHG Protocol so it withstands scrutiny.
  • Quantifying office emissions across Scope 1, 2 and 3 (refrigerants, electricity, commuting, home office, water).
  • Offsetting the full 2,000 tCO₂e footprint with verified, high-integrity carbon credits.
  • Proving the claim with transparent, tamper-resistant records anyone can check.

Our Solution

Switch Climate Tech acted as Authentica’s technology enabler, taking the initiative from measurement to verified, blockchain-recorded neutrality:

  • Quantified office emissions across Scope 1, 2 and 3 following the GHG Protocol and ISO 14064-1, using DEFRA, EPA and IPCC emission factors, arriving at 24.554 tCO₂e.
  • Consolidated the full footprint of 2,000 tCO₂e (1,975.446 programs + 24.554 office) into a defensible inventory.
  • Prepared the full Carbon Neutrality Report, aligned to ISO 14068-1:2023, documenting scope, boundary, and methodology.
  • Procured and retired 2,000 verified carbon credits from the Nabil Hydro (Sahas Urja & HPP) bundled hydropower project in Nepal, registered under UCR.
  • Recorded the retirement on-chain on Polygon, aligned to GBBC standards using Carbon Reference Tokens (CRT), for transparent, verifiable proof.

Switch delivered this through its proven Measure, Mitigate and Transform approach to Carbon Neutrality.

Measured Benefits

  • Achieved certified carbon neutrality across 47 global programs and office operations, with 2,000 tCO₂e fully offset by verified credits.
  • Secured high-integrity hydropower credits (UCR-registered, 109 MW Nepal bundle: Dordi Khola + Solu Khola) supporting UN SDGs 7, 8 and 13.
  • Established a fully traceable claim, with the retirement publicly recorded and independently verifiable on the Polygon blockchain.
  • Issued a Certificate of Carbon Neutrality any stakeholder can verify against the registry and on-chain record.
  • Pinpointed program travel and commuting as the dominant emission drivers, giving Authentica a clear reduction focus for future cycles.

Strategic Impact

This engagement gives Authentica an audit-ready baseline across its global program portfolio, enabling year-on-year reduction tracking and scalable neutrality as its programs grow. By pairing standards-based measurement with high-quality offsetting and blockchain proof, Authentica strengthens its position as a transparent, responsible, and future-ready leader in sustainable education.

Switch Climate Tech transformed Authentica’s sustainability commitment into a verified, market-ready outcome, from measurement to blockchain-recorded credit retirement.
